Betty Root, one of Brintin’s leading experts in the teaching of reading, shows that you can do for your child from birth through preschool and early school years to help make the process of becoming a reader enjoyable and free of anxiety. She also suggests ways of offering continued support and encouragement once your child is able to read for himself. Betty Root set up the Reading and Language Information Centre at the University of Reading twenty years ago. During this time she has gained international renown for her research into the teaching of reading and has recently been awarded the M.B.E. for her service to the Centre.
