在這本書中Ramon利用家人都不注意時，請父親的一個老友教他潛水，他也因此找到了一顆相當奇特且珍貴的黑珍珠，老人一直提醒他這是屬於海怪Manta Diablo的東西，並希望他能將它歸還，原本他並不在意老人的話，直到一連串的不幸發生，他的內心開始產生衝突，當他決定要把它還給Manta Diablo時，沒想到卻被另一位船員發現了，並威脅他必須要到另一個地方將它賣掉，這一路上Manta Diablo便一直跟著他們，最後會發生什麼事呢？而這顆黑珍珠最後又會流落何方呢？適合12歲以上兒童閱讀。
這個故事算是一個民間流傳的故事，一開始我並不太搞得懂作者描寫這個故事的主要用意，只是單純的民間故事或是有特別的用意呢？最後海怪被殺死了，同時那位船員也死了，男孩也成了唯一活著看過海怪Manta Diablo的人，而他才發現原來並不是如其他人所講，其是海怪Manta Diablo是相當的溫柔的，我想這應該也是最後他決定留下黑珍珠，海怪Manta Diablo並不會給他們帶來不幸，而這個黑珍珠及海怪Manta Diablo的故事將是他們最珍貴的資產。
